First Dentist Visit

Yesterday I took Savannah for her first dentist appointment. We had talked about it for weeks and I just knew it would be a fun adventure for us . . . boy was I WRONG! She seemed to enjoy the waiting area, but once the lady came for us she went crazy. She didn't want to sit in the pretty yellow chair, didn't care about prizes, and wouldn't even open her mouth so the hygienist could count her teeth! When the dentist came to check her mouth we had to hold her down just to get her teeth counted and some fluoride wiped on. They assured me that this was normal for the first time and I assured them that daddy would be coming next time! Oh well, at least they said that everything looks good. Here is Savannah, happy as can be after the ordeal was all over.

Sunday and Monday

On Sunday we travelled to Burlington for our first baby boy shower. It was just for immediate family and was such a special time to not only see everyone, but to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our baby boy!

We got lots of cute clothes for him and Savannah even got a special gift for her! She was so proud and has talked non stop about how she's going to be a big sister soon. Here she is sporting her new big sister shirt and matching pink shorts, which she couldn't wait to wear yesterday.

A picture of the 3 cousins is hard to capture!

So yesterday I had planned to work on thank you notes, sort through the baby clothes, and accomplish a multitude of other things . . . but God had a different plan.

That's right, a broken foot! I guess His new plan involved lots of rest and learning that a to-do list isn't so important after all. Dave had to take yet another 1/2 day today to take me to the orthopedic doctor who thinks that it's definitely broken. Because I'm soooo pregnant I didn't want x-rays and he said the treatment would be the same whether it was fractured or broken, so this is my new fashion statement for the hot summer months right before delivery! :) Thankfully it does help a lot in terms of being able to get around and the doctor said that I could drive with my left foot . . . just not long distances. Wonder if I could actually have a baby with this thing on? When it rains it pours around here.

Please continue to pray for my mom who is still in the hospital. They are planning to insert a port today at 2 and will start chemotherapy this afternoon. We all need lots of prayers over the next few weeks!!

Please Pray for My Mom!

As most of you know, my mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer a few weeks ago. Since then she has been going through a series of tests to determine 1)if the cancer has spread and 2) what the best course of treatment is. However, this weekend she really became sick and was in lots of pain. When we saw her on Sunday she couldn't even get out of the bed. By Sunday night she ended up in the ER from dehydration and severe cramping. Thankfully, today they admitted her and now she has 24 hour care until they get her symptoms under control. I have spoken to her surgical oncologist himself as well as the regular oncologist's nurse and the plan is to get her pain under control and then start chemotherapy tomorrow. I talked with mom more tonight and she is still in a lot of pain. Please, please pray for her comfort and for these important decisions the team of oncologists are making for her. I have learned way more than I ever wanted to know about cancer today, and that is for sure!

The sermon on Sunday at church was about finding something positive to share . . . here's my positive. Every person I have talked to has been super nice, thorough, and has followed up with phone calls directly to me. I know that it is a rare thing to be able to call and leave a message for a surgical oncologist and have him call me within a few hours at home. Also, there have been several ladies who have pitched in and just taken awesome around the clock care of my mom. Gail, Mary, and Joyce thank you sooo much for being there for my mom when I can't. You are lifesavers and I love you dearly!

So, although I continue to be very scared and wonder what God has in store for our family, I do know that He is at work. I am thankful that when faced with something like this there is a Bigger and Better Hand in control.

A Special Delivery

Earlier this week Savannah and I were out in the yard playing and the mail lady, Ms. Anita, drove up to visit us. She just wanted to see how we were doing and tell us that she had gifts for Savannah and the new baby that she was working on and would be dropping off soon. This lady is SO sweet and even gave me her cell number not long ago just incase I missed her and needed to have her come back to pick up a package. Anyway, when I got home from shopping today Dave said that we had a huge bag delivered!!
I was shocked when I opened it and saw these awesome new blankets that Anita made! The first one is enormous and just perfect for Savannah with not only butterflies, but her new favorite ladybugs too! Baby #2's blanket is just as cute, and almost as big, with a yellow back and adorable little snails and worms. They are both sooo soft and "cozy" as Savannah would say. What a special gift from such a special lady!

A Little of This and That

Today has been an interesting day. It started wonderfully with WEE school, a nice walk, shower, and then lunch with my friend Katie from high school. What a treat to be able to meet her for lunch and catch up! We definitely plan to do it again sometime soon . . . before this baby comes. Then it was off to pick up Savannah and hit the Ben and Jerry's for some free icecream! This is where my day went down hill a bit.

Excuse my complaining, but when we got there a line of people were waiting, most of whom had already been through the line several times for icecream. I mean seriously, it's just outrageous when you hear parents talking about going through the line 5 times and letting their children do the same thing. Sure the sign didn't say one per person, but isn't that taking advantage of the situation? Then, when I saw the mom ahead of her daughter hiding her half eaten icecream while ordering another scoop I just about lost it. No wonder kids today have no sense of right or wrong!! Anyway, we waited our turn took our scoops and headed home.

After some tutoring and Savannah's long nap, it was dinner time. Dave came home early so he and Savannah could head off to WEE school for Daddy night!! Now I'm sitting here watching Everybody Loves Raymond and enjoying some nice peace and quiet! Definitely a way to end the day.

Savannah's gifts to Daddy. What sweet treasures!

It's a Vegetable Miracle

Tonight was a big first, I would actually call it a miracle, in the Bachmann household. Savannah started her normal dinnertime routine of whinning because she couldn't use play doh, saying "I not like" whatever I had cooked, asking for "cheese strings", and refusing to even try what was on the table. This has been our biggest issue with her ever since we stopped giving her baby food. The child has NEVER even tried a vegetable from the table, other than corn (which she would only eat if it was on the cob, not cut off). Anyway, tonight was just the same as every other night, I made our dinner plates and then put a small portion on her plate. As usual, she started saying that she didn't like ravioli, but strangely enough, tonight she decided to not only eat every vegetable on her plate (peas, corn, carrots, and green beans) but even kept asking for more!! The catch was that we had to sort of mixed vegetables and help her eat each and every spoonful, but who's complaining? The child actually ate vegetables!!! It must have been the quality time she had with daddy this morning . . .

Happy Easter!

Here are a couple of pictures from our morning. I'll spare sharing the one of us as a family since I am beyond huge! In the second picture Savannah was so excited to find her Easter basket. Dave wants to start a tradition where we hide the basket and she has to hunt for it. I have to say that I like my friend Heather's string idea better, but we settled for hiding it this year. As you can tell, I have a lot to learn about making baskets pretty. As a child mine was always stuffed to the brim, filled with grass, and of course tons of candy. Sorry Savannah, I'm working on it!

This year Easter has been a lot different than ones in the past. We decided to stay home and get some much needed rest. We enjoyed Easter Sunday in our own church and weren't rushing around to get to any place afterwards. This afternoon we've worked a little on the nursery, I cut Dave's hair, and now he's off on a run. Once the little one wakes up we are going to have our own Easter egg hunt in the backyard since yesterday was total chaos. Ahhh! There's no place like home.
Happy Easter everyone!

Easter Egg Hunt Chaos

Savannah with the Easter bunny

Today we decided to take Savannah to a local Easter egg hunt. She had been talking about finding eggs for some time so we thought it would be a fun thing to do together as a family. Little did I know that it would be mass chaos!! We arrived and ended up walking over 1.5 miles just to get to the Easter egg hunt where the line was already forming an hour ahead of time. Even though it was all muddy and she barely got anything in her basket, she still had a great time. She went to bed anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Easter bunny tonight!

Here she is patiently waiting to start the egg hunt.

Prayers for My Mom

As most of you know, we just found out on Sunday that my mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer late last week. She saw the oncologist yesterday and really still has limited information. All we know is the the tumor is in the middle 1/3 of her stomach and that 3 months of chemotherapy is a must. She will meet with a surgical oncologist hopefully next week to determine if surgery is an option before or after chemo. Please pray for her during this time. Pray for a sense of peace, that the scan on Tuesday will reveal that the cancer has not spread anywhere else, and that the doctors will make the best decisions about her treatment and care.

Savannah's New Dress

Savannah was so excited to get a package in the mail today! Grammy and Papa sent her an Easter basket along with this adorable pillowcase dress that Grammy made! It is Savannah's first pillowcase dress and we both love it. Her cousin Alyssa has an identical one . . . won't they be cute together?! It took me awhile to convince her that it wasn't a good idea to wear it today with the freezing cold weather we're having, but after awhile she agreed and put her long sleeve outfit back on.

Speaking of, what is up with this weather? Go away winter!!! Where are you Spring??

Home Sweet Home

Well, Dave and I arrived home around 12:30 yesterday and Savannah acted like she could have cared less! Honestly, it hurt a little to think that she didn't miss us that much, but oh how thankful I am that she had a swell time while we were gone. We came home and found a neat and tidy house with not only the dishwasher running, but the laundry in the dryer too!! My friend Heather and her husband Dave were awesome with her! So now here's the dilemma . . . what do we do for them? I wanted to send a check, but my Dave said that wasn't a good idea. Any suggestions??

I do have to say that Savannah is in a bit of a pickle trying to readjust to us being back. Last night was R.O.U.G.H. Dave ended up putting her in the bed with me when he got up around 5 this morning, which we have never had to do before. Hopefully tonight will go more smoothly! It's still always good to be home sweet home.

Charleston Vacation

Dave and I have had a blast today! Dave did awesome in the race this morning, finishing more than 5 minutes under last years time. I enjoyed my morning in the hotel and a nice, fattening, hot breakfast before heading out to watch the runners. We have walked a ton, eaten well and even managed to take a long nap this afternoon. I can't even remember the last time I took a 2+ hour nap and didn't wake up in a panic or worried about what didn't get accomplished during that time. Although it is A LOT different without Savannah here, we have really enjoyed our time being on our own schedule . . . I do miss her though!
