Teeth grinding

Just this week Savannah has started grinding her teeth (the six little ones that she has). When I first heard it I thought she was chewing on something hard and rushed to do the finger sweep. However, when that didn't uncover anything in her mouth, I realized she was making the noise herself. It's awful! You can hear the little teeth grinding across the room. I hear that this is just a phase and I sure hope so!

A morning for mommies

What a great morning. Although Savannah refused to take her morning nap (again) she was still awake enough to enjoy time with five of her friends from church! The kids seemed to have a great time playing together and of course the mommies savored every moment of adult conversation. I am so thankful for each of these mommies. They are always there for me to offer advice, encouragement, and most importantly friendship. Today they gave me some great advice on things to start trying to feed Savannah. I soooo want to stop feeding her this baby food but just didn't have any creative ideas of things to feed her. Today we tried cheese quesadillas! Tomorrow it's going to be cream cheese and jelly sandwiches . . . I can already tell that she's going to love this transition!

Our Anniversary

This past week has been pretty hectic, but I think I've finally recovered from the big birthday party on Saturday, Father's Day on Sunday, our anniversary on Tuesday, and Savannah's doctor's appointment on Wednesday. Although we had lots going on last week, Tuesday was an extra special day for me. Dave surprised me by taking a day off from work to be home with the family for our 3rd anniversary. We kept the normal weekday routine, but it was just extra special to have daddy home. We did make it out to dinner at a local restaurant (not our favorite one as it's not very baby friendly ~ what happens when I'm too busy to remember to call a babysitter) and of course Dave broke our deal for no gifts and showed up with flowers for me! :) He's so thoughtful!

I continue to be amazed at how he can fulfill so many roles at work and at home. Dave's always been a loving husband even when I'm not so lovable, a great daddy who loves his daughter even when she's fussy, and an extremely hard working employee who's way under appreciated at work. Even after a long day at the office, he's always willing to come home and pitch right in with the routine. I am possibly one of the luckiest women alive!!

Now just when I get things back in order and half cleaned up, I've planned a play date at my house for Tuesday. I like to keep it interesting . . .

Shots

Yesterday we had the dreaded 1 year doctor's appointment. Part of me always looks forward to getting my list of questions answered by the doctor, but the other part of me hates the end of the appointment where Savannah has to get shots . . . a grand total of 5 shots and a finger prick yesterday. Ouch! Thankfully Dave took time off from work to be there with us. She weighed in at 27 1/2 pounds and was 32 inches long. She's still in the 97+ percentile for height, weight, and head size.

The Birthday Party

Happy Birthday, Savannah!! What a fun day we had on Saturday. The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have a great time. The kids (all 11 of them) played and played on the swingset and then loved helping Savannah open her gifts. It was such a special day for us as we celebrated not only Savannah's first birthday, but also mommy surviving the first year!! :) I must say that my only disappointment was that she didn't just go face forward into the cake. Thanks to Jamen, she did get pretty messy though. Here are a few pictures from the weekend. The last one is literally what my house still looks like, no kidding. It's a jungle around here. A huge thank you goes out to our friends and family who took part in our special day . . . you are the ones who've helped us make it through this year!! We love you!

A Year Already??

Well, today is Savannah's first birthday. Parts of me are excited and parts of me are sad that a year of her life has already gone by. It seems like just a few weeks ago when we were bringing her home from the hospital and giving her the tour of her new home. Wow, how time flies.

We've had a pretty eventful day so far . . . we've been for a run, done some yard work, laundry, dishes, some cleaning inside, and of course run several errands. I'm not sure if it's just because she's ONE now or because I've been too busy to keep a close eye on her, but so far Savannah has accomplished the following: unrolled two rolls of toilet paper, taken about 50 of Dave's alphabetized CDs out of the entertainment center, chewed up a magazine, and spit up on the carpet. Whew. No time for this today as Grammy and Grandpa are due in a few hours and the picture appointment is in 30 minutes. It will get done, it will get done. The highlight of the day was definitely the official turning around of the car seat. It was the first thing on the to do list this morning, and I must say that she LOVES being forward facing!! :) Here is a picture of her last car ride, rear facing.

Sweet friends

Today was a neat day as I visited my old workplace, South Charlotte Middle. Not much has changed around there, even with my absence ~ HA! This I quickly became aware of as I entered the building and within 30 seconds had already heard the phrase "geometry scores" from Ms. Waggoner. I once again was called into the conference room to meet with the principal, only this time I knew it wasn't because a parent was complaining.

Here's the dilemma . . . they want me to come back and substitute next year while a teacher is on maternity leave. At first I have to admit that I was not only honored, but excited at the idea of really teaching in a classroom again. This was one area where I have always had a lot of confidence and felt like I was respected from colleagues and parents too. However, with substitute pay I don't think it's even enough to cover a babysitter, not to mention pay for the work I would be doing! Well, it's something to think about anyway.

It was still great to see many old friends that I go way back with. Some I had worked with even before Dave and I knew each other. Beth has been there for me through dating, wedding planning, marriage, baby planning, and now raising children. There are days that I really miss everyone there and the drama that goes along with teaching in CMS, but then I pinch myself and realize I'm living the dream here at home.

Bronchitis

Has it really been a week since I last wrote?? Well, that just proves that things around the Bachmann household have been a zoo!! It all started last week with Savannah's cough that continued to get worse day by day. By Thursday it was keeping her up from her naps . . . she would cough, cry, cough, cry ~ it was awful listening to her suffer through it so I decided it was time to go to see Dr. Baker. We went in and I could tell something was wrong as he kept listening to her breathe over and over again. Finally he said that she had bronchitis and gave us some antibiotics. By Saturday morning I could tell a HUGE difference as she was no longer staying awake coughing. Whew!

Then there's the party planning. I feel like I'm planning a wedding all over again trying to get ready for Savannah's big day on Saturday. Who would have thought that it would be so stressful! I think we're finally wrapping things up and preparing for Grammy and Grandpa to arrive Friday. My friends have been wonderful! Every day I talk to Elizabeth she has offered to help and Jessica is hemming the birthday dress now. What would I do without these girls?

Baby-Proofing

Well, the time has finally come to baby-proof our house. Yesterday I was on the computer and heard some clanging in the kitchen. After quickly going to see what the child had gotten into, this is what I found . . . Savannah trying to pull out my pots and pans. Thankfully she didn't get into the cabinet next to this one with the cleaning stuff. Then, only hours later I stepped into the garage to grab a piece of masking tape. I was literally gone 10 seconds and when I got back in the house I found her standing on the third step going upstairs!!! I think she plans these things, just waiting until I turn my back and then she goes at triple speed to get into what she knows she's not supposed to be doing.

Times they are a changin'

Savannah's friend Jack came over for a few hours last night and they had a great time together. I have to say that I was a little worried about having two babies by myself for a few hours, but it was wonderful . . . now don't get any crazy ideas . . . we're not planning another one anytime soon! Here's a picture of them with their bottles.

It's just times like this that I sit back and think how quickly life has changed. It seems like just yesterday that I was finishing up teaching another school year and headed to the beach to celebrate Jamen's birthday. I really do miss that carefree fun that we all had every year at Lisa's beach house. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMEN!! :)
