Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend has been pretty low key for our family.  We were honestly super excited about the thought of staying home all weekend and having Daddy home an extra day too!  Saturday we ventured on another long family walk to run errands.  We started early and it was quite chilly, we even put Preston in pants for his stroller ride!  But by the time we were walking home it was hot and we were all sweaty!  It was a nice feeling to get another long walk in and all of my errands checked off of the list too.  We then enjoyed a stay at home day, other than a birthday party that Savannah attended.

Sunday was our normal morning at church, but then we took another long walk and ventured out to the Ezell's house to meet their new puppy.  Rocky is super cute and the kids loved playing in the backyard with each other and the puppy too.

Then today we went to Carowinds, with everyone else in Charlotte!  I was super scared when we saw that traffic on 77 was backed up over a mile just with people exiting to Carowinds, but actually the lines ended up not being too bad. . . well there was the hour plus wait Savannah and Dave had to wait to ride Rip Roaring Rapids. :)  Overall it was a super fun day that we ended with some good ol' hot dogs for dinner.

Last Day of 3 Year Old WEE School

Preston with Miss Megan and Miss Becca
Today came with very mixed emotions . . . it was the last day of preschool this year for Preston.  Time has simply flown by since he started school in September.  Grandma says the older you get the faster time goes and I'm really starting to believe it!  My goodness, it seems like we just started 3 year old WEE school and now it's already over.  I have to say that this year has probably been our best experience ever with teachers. We have truly been blessed every week by Miss Becca and Miss Megan.  They have taught Preston so much, but have also loved on him and encouraged him every day.  Plus, I have to say that I loved the reports they gave me weekly about how "Preston has the most tender heart, is always willing to share, and is so sweet."  At first I thought they said that to every kid, but by the end of the year I came to realize that they indeed were serious.  I finally figured out that I just lived with a different animal at home. :)

Singing Happy Birthday to the Summer B-day kids
Because Preston has a summer birthday we always celebrate it the last week of school with his class.  Here are the 3 kids that all have summer birthdays.  The class sang to them and they got to wear a birthday crown for the day.  The kids were able to choose 2 special friends to sit with during lunch earlier that week (Preston chose Ava and Abby) so the celebration just continued onto the last day of school with a big class wide ice cream party.

So it's with a sad heart that we wrap up the school year for this little guy.  He truly has grown and learned so much within a short time.  Now we look ahead to not only a summer of fun, but what the Lord has in store for us next year at WEE school!  Thank you Lord for an amazing year!

My Favorite Exercise

I have always loved going for long walks.  It's so relaxing and, to be honest, a good workout when I'm pushing both kids in the stroller.  Since Dave has been trying to get in more steps for his health program at work, walking has become a family routine on the weekends.  However, recently I've found that it's a great way to keep from snacking in the kitchen before Dave gets home in the afternoons as well.  Plus, since we live within a couple miles of a shopping center I've even manged to get in a few errands on foot, which saves gas in the car too!

This week was a super busy week with wrapping up WEE school for Preston (see post to follow) and many other things going on.  So this afternoon on our way home from a few errands I let Savannah ride so that she could get in her reading homework while I was walking . . did I mention that I'm teaching her how to be a multi-tasker too?!  I guess either the book Puppy Palace was super boring or Preston couldn't fight avoiding a nap anymore because he fell fast asleep after only a few minutes of her reading.  Thankfully we were far from home so he got in a good 1/2 hour nap!!

Up & Down Highway 85

Alyssa & Savannah
This weekend we enjoyed being able to see all of our nieces and nephews!  It started Friday afternoon with a girls night out in Gaffney.  Savannah and I left Preston with a babysitter and headed to Gaffney to meet Susan and her girls for an afternoon of shopping and of course dinner out as well.  Unfortunately Susan had a flat tire on the way there, but that didn't stop us!  We still hit a few stores and enjoyed a yummy dinner at Fatz Cafe before heading back to Charlotte.

Then Saturday morning we headed to Burlington to see my family.  We stopped on the way to see Aunt Cherry and then headed to Grandma's house.  Everyone then headed to the Petersen house where they have the annual cookout before homecoming on Sunday.  We couldn't stay for church on Sunday, but definitely enjoyed being able to see all of our extended family for the afternoon.  It was a super late night with us not getting the kids in bed until close to 11pm.  Let's just say the 8am church service came bright and early the next day!

Great Grandma with the kiddos
So it was a fun weekend full of family, but I can't say I'm in a hurry to travel so much up and down highway 85 again anytime soon!

Savannah's Field Day 2013

Today was field day for first graders at Savannah's school.  Once again the kids loaded the buses and headed to the Hemby center for an entire morning of fun.  Here are a few pictures from the day. It was super nice to get there, set up the picnic area for her class, and then be able to walk around without a specific job .  Plus, I had to leave early to relieve the baby sitter and take Preston to My Gym so it was nice not to have to stay in one spot all morning.  She came home super excited and exhausted too!

Mommy Breakfast with Preston

This morning Preston's WEE school class hosted a breakfast for the mommies.  It was so cute how they performed this little song for us and then sang John 3:16 from memory too!  What a great way to start my Mother's Day weekend!!

Mother's Day Tea at PSE

Sooo excited to show me all of the pretty things she made for me!
This morning was a very special day for me! Savannah's class at school hosted their very own Mother's Day Tea for all of the mommies.  It began with Savannah escorting me into the room to seat me at her desk, which was full of special surprises! I got a beautiful necklace, an adorable place mat, and a very special book of things Savannah wrote about me. My personal favorite was that "my mom drives me to Harris Teeter.:)
Serving me my dessert
The students then served us very special treats with lemonade followed by taking turns in reading the book I'll Love You Forever!

Me and my sweet Girl!!
It was such a special morning and I'm truly thankful for my sweet girl Savannah!  She has had such a great year thanks to Mrs. Safran and Mrs. Ferguson.  They are awesome and have loved on our little one every day this year. :)

Pinkalicious!!

Today Savannah and I had some girl time and ventured uptown to see the musical Pinkalicious.  It was such a fun afternoon and we both wore our pink.  Here she is with her very own delicious, specially made Pinkalicious cupcake. :)
