Family Updates

Savannah after her Upward Celebration
I'm making it a point to stay at home all day.  No errands, no groceries, nothing but time at home to complete a few things that have been on my to do list forever.  So far today Preston and I have organized the top of the pantry, hung 3 pictures inside and a bird feeder outside, cleaned the fish bowl, wrapped a present, scrubbed lots of marks from walls with a magic eraser, repaired a Yahtzee game, had a speech therapy session, and worked on consignment stuff.  Not a glamorous day, but one that will leave me feeling a bit caught up.  I still have to update their baby books and start putting consignment items in the computer, but I'm enjoying a day at home in my workout clothes for sure!  Speaking of workouts, I reached a new goal this morning (running goal that is, definitely not in terms of weight) . . . I ran 4 miles in under 30 minutes!!  Okay, so enough about today, what has the rest of the family been up to lately??

Dave travelled to Atlanta, GA for a few days last week.  We survived, but were definitely thankful when we arrived home late Friday night.  He is now busy training the new guy that will take his place starting after the closing of this month, when he officially moves to Ford.

Savannah has been doing super in school.  She is learning more and more every day and her newest fun activity is trying to see if we can name all 50 states together.  At the dinner table last night we were doing multiplication and division facts!!  She asked me to quiz her on multiplication and I agreed to play along because we have been doing some basic facts, but when she asked me to give her division problems I couldn't believe it.  It's crazy how much her little brain is soaking up.  I know I didn't do division and multiplication in the first grade and I was pretty good at math!  She also finished the Upward cheer leading season with a game on Saturday and the celebration on Sunday afternoon.  She was super excited to get flowers that she had been asking about for weeks. :)

Preston has, well, been Preston.  He keeps us laughing and on our toes for sure.  His speech is improving but he is still having major issue with blends of sounds.  However, the interesting that about him is that he has become very interested in death and Heaven.  Odd, I know, but he daily asks us about when we're going to Heaven and what types of things are in Heaven.  He's particularly interested in what they have to eat there.  Add that to the fact that he always points out the graveyard on the way to Savannah's school and the fact that he thinks we are REALLY old and it can freak a mama out.  Just this week as Dave was walking away from dropping him off in Sunday school he heard Preston tell the teacher "my dad is REALLY, REALLY old."  Ha!  Preston is also still fascinated with police men and jail.  He is always asking us if kids can go to jail or just mommies and daddies.  I try to tell him that kids can get taken by policemen with they break the rules but that they go to a special place, not jail.  His questions keep my brain working non stop so I savor every second of his sleeping time so I can rest too.  Speaking of rest, he is down for a nap so I'm going to have lunch and relax!

A Fast Blizzard

Marshmallow, the Snowman
So I'm sitting in the office yesterday afternoon and I said to Dave "I thought it was supposed to snow today."  We both looked out and there wasn't anything close to a snowflake falling, actually it wasn't even raining.  Earlier in the morning there had been a few flurries, but we just figured that it missed us yet again . . . then, less than 10 minutes later we look out and it is literally a blizzard of falling snow.  Within a matter of minutes everything was covered, including the streets!  Normally this would have been awesome, but last night we actually had scheduled a sitter to come so that we could go to a very special friend's 40th birthday party near uptown.  We debated back and forth about whether we should brave the weather to go to the party and ended up deciding that we would leave our super sad kids at home (because there wasn't time to play outside and clean up before we had to leave) and go to the party.  I prayed that there would still be snow after church today so that we would be able to squeeze it all in and it ended up working out for us!

Other than the accident we got into on the way to the party (only minor damage to the car and the accident wasn't my fault) it ended up being a great night and a fun Sunday morning too.  The early service at church was cancelled so we were able to sleep in two mornings in a row and came home to head right outside to play in the snow.  I lasted only a little bit before I was frozen and decided to come in and start our crock pot chili for dinner and get lunch ready.  However, Dave the super dad, played out for over an hour with these two little kiddos.  They made a cute snowman, threw a few snowballs, and tried to sled down the hill in the front a few times before coming in for lunch.  What a great weekend . . . well, minus the accident!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a great Valentine's Day at the Bachmann house.  Dave and I agreed that we would not swap gifts with each other this year, but would definitely still continue our tradition of Cheesecake Factory Adam's peanut butter cup cheesecake to go! ;)

So the morning started off with a surprise of beautiful red tulips from Dave (which he said didn't count as a gift) and then fun heart-shaped pink chocolate chip pancakes I made for those not on a diet.  The kids loved having a special breakfast before school.  Once I got them to school, picked up balloons for Savannah's party, and ran a few other errands I came home to start working on the to do list.  I noticed that both kids had made their beds (or attempted to make them) complete with the comforter and decorative pillows.  Isn't it awesome how children choose to show love?!  They must already know that one of my love languages is acts of service.  When they got home they made sure to ask if I noticed how well they made their beds. :)  They also made lots of creative valentine cards for us including this one, my favorite, from Savannah.

After a yummy lasagna dinner including homemade bread we let the kids open their gifts. They each got a toy, a new shirt, and at Peanut's request, new funny socks from Target. :)

Showing off their new shirts
What a special day spent celebrating the ones we love!!  Any who doesn't love an excuse to blow their diet on cheesecake?!  Happy Valentine's Day!

Siblings and Cousins

I have no idea where time has gone the past few weeks!  It seems like things keep getting busier and busier, but I wanted to take a minute and share a little of what we've been doing.

Here are a few lines form a dialogue I heard last Saturday as I sat and caught up on some e-mails before Savannah went to cheer leading:

"Mom, she put her finky (stinky) feet on me"
"No I did not!, He pushed me down just so he could tattle." etc.

Although my tendency was to get frustrated with them both, I just smiled thinking about siblings and what a blessing it is to have one!  I know that for the most part our kids play amazingly well together so just hearing their squabbles make me smile . . well for the most part. :)

On Sunday we travelled to Greenville, SC to celebrate Papa and Aunt Susan's birthday.  We had a delicious lunch and then headed back to Susan's house for dessert and to let the kids play.

Again, I'm super thankful for the way these sweet cousins play together.  They all immediately went upstairs and played non stop.

These two played VERY well together and loved jumping on the trampoline

And then I just have to share this.  As we were preparing Valentine cards for teachers today, Preston insisted on writing his own name.  I gave in and the first card was interesting . . but the second card was almost perfect!!  I'm so proud that my little guy can finally write his name legibly!

Preston's first real signature!
