A Long Memorial Day Weekend

Our super long holiday weekend started on Friday!  The kids had a teacher workday at school so we ventured to Carowinds while Daddy was at work. It seemed crowded with many middle school field trips there, but the lines were relatively short so we had a super fun morning with practically no waiting.  The kids even decided to try a new adventure called Plants vs. Zombies.  Last time we were at Carowinds for spring break the wait was 1.5 hours.  Today we walked right in twice. :)

We enjoyed a relaxing Saturday at home for the most part.  I did squeeze in a super long run and a few errands, but the kids had plenty of time to play outside just chilling at home!  We picked up BBQ for dinner and enjoyed another beautiful evening eating outside.

Thankfully Dave had Monday off so we all couldn't wait to go to our favorite putt putt place.  The weather was awesome  . . . cool, breezy, and overcast . . . perfect for 18 holes outside.  Again the kids spent most of the afternoon playing outside with the neighbors.  Dave and I plugged away at work inside and accomplished a lot!

Now we are officially on the count down to summer ~ really the kids are on countdown to DISNEY!!  With only 8 school days to go and 11 days to Disney, the excitement is growing! :)

Preston's First Field Day

This kid was so excited to participate in his first PSE field day!  I'm not sure if it was getting to go off campus for the event, the idea of playing all day, getting to be checked out early, or really just being able to finally play all of the games now that his hand is healed, but he was over the top excited!

Things work a bit differently in lower grades so he was assigned a group and they rotated through the different stations.  Since I was assigned a station (in the middle of the baseball field) I didn't get to see him experience everything, but I know he had a blast!

It ended with Papa John's pizza before he got to come home early.  What a fun, yet tiring day!  I'm so thankful he was able to participate and enjoy this end of the year event.  It's hard to believe this year is almost over!

Savannah's Spring Y Guides Adventure

Painted Pony Princesses
Camp Harrison Longhouse
Spring 2016

As you can see from the pictures, this girl had one swell time with her daddy at Camp Harrison this past weekend!  Thanks to Mr. Roy who talked to the man in charge, the girls were all able to try out skeet shooting (Savannah actually hit the target) and paint ball even though they weren't fifth year princesses yet.  It was a weekend filled with lots of fun, adventures both new and old, and laughter too.

Sunday morning they took one last canoe ride before heading back to Charlotte.  I'm so thankful for the time Dave willingly spends with both Savannah and Preston for these special retreats. They are truly making memories that will last a lifetime.

A Weekend With Peanut!

We haven't seen him out and about with a bare arm in 6 weeks!
Friday after school Dave and Savannah left for Y Guides . . which gave me the entire weekend with Preston! He was thrilled to start the weekend with a visit to OrthoCarolina, where he was finally released and given the all clear to go without the splint!  More importantly, he was cleared to ride his bike!!!  He is still very protective over his right hand, but knowing that a few more activities (not football) are allowed was super exciting for this little guy.

We then had his favorite Chick fil A for dinner!  Yum!

After dinner we enjoyed feeding all of the ducks at the little pond behind the shopping center.  Preston was surprised to see his buddy Maks from school there too so together they used about an entire loaf of bread feeding the many, many ducks.

Saturday morning started with the PSE carnival. Although he couldn't do the jumpy houses like all of the other kids, Preston loved collecting all of the free items and of course seeing Ms. Bridges there with her dog, Sadie. The teacher pet parade is always a big hit!

We went home for a quick lunch and then headed to see his team play football.  They have developed quite a few skills, and Preston enjoyed cheering them on this week.

Probably the highlight of the entire weekend was being able to get back on his bike!  He was very unsure at first and was afraid that he'd forgotten how to ride it, but not a chance.  What fun to be able to go for a ride up and down the street again!

And then to top off a super fun day, we had dinner at Karhans' new house! It was loud, crazy and loads of fun too.  The Neal and LeRoy families were also there so with 8 kids running around there wasn't a dull moment for sure.  I cherish these times spent with such sweet, sweet friends!

Savannah's 4th Grade Field Day!

We could not have asked for a more beautiful day for field day!  It started off super overcast and even drizzled a little before the buses pulled in, but by the time the kids were set "free" it was one awesome day!
This girl is one serious hula hooper!
Savannah once again won a first place ribbon for hula hoop!  She went a solid 30 minutes and never even wavered!! So proud of her determination to get that ribbon again this year. :)

She was also on the tug of war team, which dominated the competition
Savannah was thrilled to bring home another 1st place ribbon for her contribution to the tug of war team!

After the individual and class competitions were all finished there was Papa Johns for lunch!!  The kids were super excited to have such a yummy lunch after all of the running and competitive games.

So excited to spend the morning together!
It was a fabulous day!  From beginning to end (even with a mini break to get our new washer installed) I loved spending the day at the Hemby center with the fourth graders!  Savannah was also excited to check out early and head home to pack for a weekend away with daddy!  Another field day in the books for this girl.

A Wonderful Mother's Day

Mother's Day this year was just perfect!  Not only was the weather great, but our entire day was super low-key and relaxed.  After church we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at LePeep and even got to dine outside like we'd hoped.  Dave and the kids showered me with fun cards and an awesome long awaited gift (my own running playlist).  Woo hoo!!!  No more long boring runs for this girl.  I even got to go for a quick, quiet walk all on my own before we headed to TCBY for dinner.  Yep, that's right.  This mama wanted ice-cream for dinner!  Yummy!

I'm so thankful for my amazing little family. . . and for the fact that they love me no matter how crazy I get.  Although it's always a bitter sweet holiday to celebrate with my mom not here, I know she is smiling from Heaven.  I find myself more and more like her every day and hope that I'll leave an impact on others as strong as she did.

Running Rock Star

I'm so so so proud of this girl!!! She truly RAN a 5k this morning!! There was no walking involved for this rock star. She finished over 4 minutes faster than last year coming in at 32:23, a new PR for Savannah!!  The running club she is doing twice a week is truly improving her speed and endurance. I left my camera at home so Preston grabbed this quick pic of us together before we left for our favorite Saturday happy place . . . the mall!
