Another sleep position

Preston continues to amuse us with his sleep positions. Yesterday at nap time when things were FINALLY quiet upstairs I went to check on him and found this . . .

I guess he just plays and plays and plays until he crashes. At least he was all on the chair this time. Notice the "boo boo cream" on his shirt that he played in before finally going to sleep. Ahhh!!

A Crazy Sunday

Sunday was a super busy day for us . . . and if something could go wrong, it did! It started off with our phone and Internet not working. We were made very well aware of this problem when the phone first went out, which set off our alarm at about 5am! So I was up and ready to go, only I couldn't get anything done without having Internet access. Then off to church it was. We were actually on time, but Preston's teachers were super late so we, once again, were late to church service. Then it was off to work during the second service. Let's just say that didn't go so well either; I apparently didn't do a very good job with checking on my teachers to make sure they had all of the craft supplies they needed.

We rushed out of church to get Savannah to her 11am birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. While she was there I went to buy flowers and tried to occupy Preston. We scarfed down some lunch from McDonald's and then rushed back to church where she had her Upward end of the year cheer celebration. When we pulled into the parking lot at church I realized that I left all of our coats at Chuck E Cheese! I left Dave in the van to deal with trying to see if they were still at the restaurant or if someone had taken them home. I went into church, took Preston potty and changed Savannah into her cheer uniform. Dave came back and said that they had the coats at the restaurant so after the ceremony we decided to go and pick up the coats before I had to be back home for tutoring.

The big dynamite cheer

Did I mention that I was very well prepared with camera and video camera?? Only, of course it would be today when I go to video and the camera says "disc full". So, I only got a few still pictures. ;(

Preston was a big trooper all day being drug around for his sister's activities. Here he is singing and dancing to the music. He stayed dry all day too, after having a rough Thursday and Friday!

Savannah made sure that I knew on Friday she wanted to receive orange flowers after the celebration. So here she is in her requested picture with her flowers.

After the celebration we loaded up the van again and headed back to Chuck E Cheese . . only to find out that the mom had actually taken the coats home with her! Ahhh!! We rushed home so I could tutor and while I was tutoring the Time Warner man showed up to switch out the modem. At least the Internet seems to be working today and we all had a great nights sleep. Let's pray today goes a lot better than yesterday!!!

Preston's New Bed

Lately we've had the hardest time getting Preston to stay in his bed. We'll go in at night and find him sound asleep on the floor (right by the door where he was trying to escape from) or I'll go in at "rest" time and find the room destroyed and him happily playing on the floor. I know part of the problem is that he is trying to drop his nap (and for the most part has done so) but I just can't explain why he won't stay in his bed at night. I mean if he hasn't had a nap and has played hard at the park for hours (like yesterday) then surely he is ready for sleep, right? What in the world is making him want to stay up at night? Well, last night it was "I tursty" then "I need go pee pee" until finally at 9:30pm we told him we weren't coming in anymore! So, right before we went to bed I went in to check on him and this is what I found. The boy was sound asleep 1/2 on the rocker and 1/2 on the ottoman!! Thankfully I was able to transfer him to the bed, same position and all, without him even opening his eyes.

It's not all about the money . . .

Today was a big day for Dave. After only 17 months with what he thought was the "dream company" to work for he has started a new job with his old company, Sonic Automotive. Are you with me on this one? We are still on COBRA for dental insurance with the old company and today he started working for them again. This has been a super fast move, and one that honestly sort of fell in his lap . . .again.

To make a long story short, Dave has been unhappy at work for quite awhile. Although he had a great staff and Hendrick was a really good company (and let's be honest he was making A LOT more money than at the old company) his boss was just a nightmare to work with. He continually expected Dave to do things that just weren't right and generally did a poor job running the dealership. So a couple of months ago Dave heard about an opening back with Sonic and I encouraged him to send in his resume. He talked with his old boss briefly, but nothing ever happened so we just assumed they were hiring internally. Anyway, a few weeks ago his old boss called out of the blue and wanted to meet Dave for dinner. He offered him the job that night and the rest has been super fast!

I called a close friend the day we found out they were going to dinner and just asked her to pray for the decision to be super clear, that it would be a no brainer. So, when Dave got home he was practically glowing. Not only did he have a chance to go back to Sonic but he would be at his first ever store, where he still knew the staff (and enjoyed working for them). He would have a boss that had accounting experience and was good to work for as well. But the decision was sealed when his boss told him that they were moving a GM from Florida to the store Dave would be at . . the same GM that Dave worked with up to the move to Hendrick . . the GM that Dave really enjoyed working with before. After finding that out, I think Dave would have paid them to let him come back. Not really, but let's just say that the decision was super easy.

So today he started working back at Infiniti of Charlotte. The commute is almost half of what it was, the staff & GM are great, and Dave really respects his boss. So, I guess the fact that he took a 20% pay cut is not even important, right? Money just isn't all there is to life and if my husband comes home happier (and quicker) , then our entire family is happier! At dinner tonight I asked Dave to give me two words to describe how he felt about the move and he said "relieved and excited". . . I guess it doesn't get much better than that.

We're still not sure why the Lord moved him to Hendrick for such a short time, but we are sure that he is where he needs to be for now. We're just praying that this is the last move for quite some time.

Happy Valentine's Day

Today I was able to celebrate Valentine's Day with both kiddos at each of their schools. Unfortunately, the timing of Savannah's party didn't work out for me to help with the actual party, but I did get to spend and hour and a half with her class since it was my normal Tuesday volunteer time. It was fun helping the students pass out valentine's and seeing them get so excited about all of the candy . . . right before lunch time.

I then rushed to Preston's school where I was helping with the party. I bought big heart balloons for each kid to take home and had a story to read. Preston was so proud to have me there and kept saying "that my mama" while I was reading the story. (I know that won't last long, so I ate it up today.)

We had a yummy dinner (steak for me and Dave, McDonalds for the kids) and Dave surprised me with some delicious chocolate covered strawberries! ;) Then it was time for presents. Can you tell how excited Preston was to open his??

Savannah reading her own card. Her reading is coming along so quickly, it's amazing!!

Super excited about her new dress up tutu . . .one that she insisted on wearing to school over her clothes today. Some battles just aren't worth the fight. :)

I feel so blessed to have such a special family, both immediate and far away folks. I hope everyone had a wonderful day and truly felt as loved as I did!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Winter Birthday Party

Last weekend we ventured to Greenville to celebrate Dave's sister and dad's birthdays. We left right after Upward Cheerleading and headed to Mellow Mushroom for lunch. The kids were super silly, but had a great time playing by the big mushroom!

Papa and Preston . . what a sweet picture!!

We then headed to Frankie's FunPark where they again had a blast playing lots of different games in the arcade. To wrap up our adventure, we all stopped by Johnny Rockets for yummy milkshakes! They were oh so delicious . . and totally not on my diet.

Savannah making sure she didn't leave a single drop in her cup . . .

Preston also double checking his cup for extra drops of choc-choc

What a fun Saturday to spend with Grammy and Papa! Thanks for all of the special treats and HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Papa & Aunt Susan!!

Tacky and her Sidekick

This week has been spirit week at Savannah's school. Today was probably my favorite day . . .tacky day. I am so uncreative, but I managed to think of putting all different kinds of striped things together and it turned out pretty cute. You can't see the red and green striped Christmas bow in her hair or her knee socks very well, but she was certainly tacky today!

Of course, her sidekick needed his picture taken today too. I guess the note worthy thing here is that there isn't pee on the front of his pants. :) Gotta love potty training . . .
