First Snow of the Year

We have enjoyed the time spent in and out of the house this weekend. Dave has been a trooper taking Savannah out a couple of times to play in the snow, which was mostly frozen over today, while I have spent hours inside sorting and hanging clothes for the upcoming consignment sales! We didn't give Preston the option of playing outside, but maybe next year! (Deborah, notice the coat that you gave her a couple of years ago! She still loves it because "it's warm and fuzzy" but I guess it's finally a bit too small.)

Here is Savannah in protest of a few items I wanted to consign. She was so stylish that I had to publish her picture! :)

Laundry Day!!!

As of 2:00 today our washing machine is FINALLY fixed! Praise the Lord. It is officially on the go and probably won't stop for a few days. We have laundry stacked all through out our hallway just waiting for the washer, but first up was of course Preston's load. Poor guy, I resorted to using Savannah's old bibs that were purple for a day, but we made it! I took pictures of the piles, but the picture doesn't even do justice to the enormous amount of clothes I have to wash.

Now for the funny part . . . leave it to Savannah to bring up what's really on her mind during prayer time at night. Last night's prayer was "Dear Jesus, thank you for today. I pray the washing machine gets fixed soon so I can eat oatmeal again." I couldn't stop laughing. Dave and I had been wondering why she had all of a sudden decided to switch to waffles for breakfast, but had no idea it was because she always drops oatmeal on her PJs, thereby creating more laundry. Interesting that she never mentioned that to us. I was sure to make her oatmeal this morning!

The good thing is that the repair only cost us $60! Whew! Loving that home warranty even if they are super slow. A huge thank you goes out to all of my friends that offered their laundry rooms. I even had one friend offer to come pick up my laundry and do it for me! I tell you, these kind of friends are hard to find!

Today, All is Well . . .

Smiling after a nice nap.
Look at my two bottom teeth!!

Finally, the angel sleeps!
Notice the angel wings from Granny . . . if only she could understand that now Granny is a real angel.

We're almost all well over here. Savannah is 100% but Preston still has a cough which, according to the doctor, is just lingering from his nasty cold. Whew! I just couldn't resist capturing these sweet moments today.

Please Hurry Weekend!!

This has been a week and a half. It started this past weekend with our attic stairs breaking (and cutting Dave's head) and now the washing machine is broken. The repair man had to order the part so it won't be fixed for at least another 4-5 business days . . . I already was behind with laundry and now I'm going over a week without doing any?? This is crazy! Let's just say our clothing selections are going to be very interesting until it's fixed. As a side note, this is yet another disadvantage of not having family in town.

We've also dealt with a ton of runny noses this week. Savannah's has been controllable and nothing serious, but poor Preston is just miserable. He not only has eczema, is teething, and has an awful cold, but he was diagnosed with croup this week too. He's been on steroids for 2 days and honestly they don't seem to be doing a thing. If he's not better by tomorrow I'm taking him back to the doctor!

The house is a disaster, not to mention dirty, and I am just ready for Dave to be home!!!! Please hurry and come 6:00 . . .

Long Overdue Yount Family Time

It has been so long since we have been together with all of mom's side of the family. But today we began a new tradition, a time that we promised mom we would do each year, time to get together, catch up, laugh, and of course eat. Aunt Cherry prepared a gourmet feast and we enjoyed some precious time as a family.

This picture didn't come out very well, but trust me, we had a FEAST!

All of the cousins

Sweet Alex and Preston . . . he really thought I was going to let him take Preston home!

Aunt Kathy and Dillon, silly silly!

It was so much fun to see how everyone loved on Preston! Bradley and Alex were way into taking Preston home to keep, but I have a feeling they'd quickly want to return him since he is now officially TEETHING! He was up all night last night crying, rolling, and moaning as the bottom two teeth have broken through and are pushing their way in. Here we go . . .

Gifts of Time

I am a firm believer in that there are no coincidences, that God is in complete control of every. single. thing! Today proved to be no exception. Over Christmas we discovered a "bump" in Savannah's scalp that we thought was a mole. After a quick trip to our pediatrician we were referred to a dermatologist with a diagnosis of a small hemangioma, not an emergency, but definitely something we needed to get checked out. Long story short, today was the appointment and I planned to pick her up from school, run 2 errands and then head to Ft. Mill with Preston in tow for Savannah's appointment. However, in my rush to gather everything I needed for the errands, school, etc I managed to forget Preston's milk . . . which I realized once we were in SC and Preston was screaming his head off! Thank God that today just happened to be the day that Aunt Cherry wanted to come and visit. She called this morning and wanted to stop by to visit the kids. After a little thought she decided to tag along to the appointment, which was a huge gift of her time to give up the entire afternoon for us. I honestly could not have made it without her. She kept a very hungry Preston occupied in the lobby while I sat with Savannah getting her bump removed. (As a side not, she did awesome and didn't even cry!) There is no doubt that God knew I couldn't possibly handle what I had planned, trying to hold a hungry infant and nurture a toddler getting shots to the scalp, so He sent us a helper who just happened to be willing to lend a hand today.

Anyway, Cherry and I talked today about gifts and how some of the best gifts are simply gifts of time. (She was actually talking about the labor intensive making ravioli by hand, but I'm talking about just plain time!) Now I'm not saying the gifts we received weren't awesome, because honestly I'm ADDICTED to our new Wii fit, but how thankful I am for her willingness to give us such a special gift today, her time!

A Moment in Time

I realized yesterday that I am loving this stage of life with Preston and Savannah! It's only taken 6 months, but I feel like we are finally to a phase of contentedness with sweet Preston. He is on a decent schedule, is sleeping well at night and is just too cute to watch! If I could freeze time I would . . . well, minus the spitting. We had his 6 month pictures done this week and if you click this link and scroll down you'll find Preston on the photographer's blog. It was too cute not to share! http://www.sproutsbyheather.blogspot.com/

Then there's Savannah. She is seriously a sponge and is absorbing every word that is said around here. She told Dave all about how "if you leave people in the car then you go to jail". We had a conversation previously about why she couldn't just wait in the car while I went into Harris Teeter. Then the funniest thing had to be when a girl scout came selling cookies and Savannah yells "mommy, it's the police lady again". Anyway, she is so smart and genuine. If she thinks it, she says it. There was a new student in WEE school this week and according to Savannah "she fussed A LOT". So this morning she made her a card before school and even "called" her on the way to school to make sure she wasn't fussing. What a heart she has!

Dear Lord, thank you so much for these amazing gifts you have blessed us with. I am so thankful to be called mommy by such wonderful children!

Christmas with the Bachmanns

Our little family

A big family picture

The kids!

Preston is now sitting solo!! Here he is enjoying his favorite thing, the wrapping paper.

This weekend Dave's family came to Charlotte to celebrate Christmas. We had so much fun with Grammy and Papa! Savannah loved having books read to her, Preston loved having so much attention and Dave and I enjoyed being able to play quadruple solitaire!! We also loved meeting baby Ashley who came with her family on Saturday. As usual, we opened a lot of gifts, ate way to much, and had a blast! I guess the Christmas season is officially over for the Bachmann household . . . welcome 2010!
