Conversations with Laurie

I hope each of you has a friend like Laurie. She is one of my nearest and dearest friends and I'm sad to say that she lives far, far away. I found out a few weeks ago that she was going to be in town for Thanksgiving, but wouldn't you know that Savannah woke up with a green snotty nose this morning. So, not wanting to get Laurie's 3 boys sick, we opted to just catch up over the phone instead of getting together today. :(

Anyway, after talking to my sweet Laurie for awhile this morning I hung up feeling refreshed, encouraged, and loved on. Okay, so I also cried for awhile too just because I miss her so much! This girl has an amazing way of loving through words . . . probably a skill she's developed over the years of living miles away from both her and her husband's family. Her gentle calming spirit and words always gently remind me that God is sovereign and in complete control of everything. She listens like no other, loves like a sister, and is one of the funniest people I know. Laurie, I am so sad that I missed seeing you and giving you a big hug today, but know that I LOVE YOU!!

A New Food!

For the past two weeks we have refused to serve Savannah chicken nuggets for dinner. We tried this once before, but this time we're sticking to it! For one, they are awful for her, and for two, I can't stand the smell of those nasty nuggets. Anyway, most nights she goes to bed without any dinner as she refuses to eat perfectly good food. Not only does she refuse to eat anything new, but she won't touch her favorites if they are even on a divided plate with something new! I'm not asking her to eat spinach or broccoli for crying out loud, we're talking pizza, pasta, hamburgers, and other things that normal children eat. Well, she finally decided to try meatballs Sunday night and I almost threw a party. WOO HOO! Now my child will eat fruit, chicken nuggets, fries, meatballs, and Kraft macaroni (last week's addition). Wonder what might be next?? It's a slow process, but this time we're determined to make it work.

Tagged and Catch up

Okay, I know it's been forever once again since I updated this thing, and the calls have already started to come so here is a summary of this week along with Tagged. Since I was tagged twice already I thought I should participate this time!

First of all, our week. Things have been pretty normal with just the busyness of Christmas added in there. Monday we went to My Gym, Tuesday and Thursday Savannah had school (Thank God!), Tuesday was also a parent's night at WEE school and although Savannah's class didn't perform we got to see her classroom. Friday we went to a play date at Jack's house and had lunch with Miss Marlene and Miss Carol. Today we've done errands, laundry, painted nails, sorted mail, and done a little online shopping. There, now we're caught up! I'll try to be better about updating during the week this week!

Bible Study

The time change has really thrown Savannah for a loop the past week! No matter how early we put her to bed she is still waking up around 7:15 most mornings. This has caused my mornings to be off too as I no longer have time to do my e-mail, Internet, and Bible study before she wakes up. So, today I tried something new. I decided that I would try to do my Bible study while she was awake. I have to say that I was shocked at how long she sat quietly in her own chair with her Bibles, juice, and B of course and just enjoyed flipping through the pages of her Bibles. Now it probably wasn't the best quiet time I've ever had, but at least I'm not only getting some studying done but am also teaching Savannah the importance of having some quiet time.

"Pee Pee Diaper"

Wow. I had no idea it's been so long since I've updated the blog. Not much new is going on, but I thought I'd share our latest challenge . . . Savannah soaking the bed almost every night! Actually, it's like 5 out of 7 nights a week, which feels like every night. There's not much worse than waking up to a child screaming "Mama, pee pee diaper. I all wet. I need clean sheets." at 7 in the morning. For the past two weeks this is what I have been dealing with and it's about to drive me crazy. This child manages not only to soak her diaper, sheets, mattress pad cover, top and bottom of her pajamas, but usually hits at least one blankie, friend, or B as well. Needless to say I've been doing quite a bit of laundry, especially since she only has 2 pairs of pajamas that are long sleeved with no feet (that's the trick to getting her to keep her clothes on). We've tried limiting her liquids, making her try to use the potty before bed, and waiting as long as possible before putting her night time pull up on, but nothing seems to work! AAHH!! Any advice?

Trick or Treat!

Savannah was super excited about Halloween yesterday. So excited that she refused to take a nap and spent over an hour in her crib talking about going "Trick or Treat". When I finally decided to get her up she was literally jumping in the bed shouting "I go trick or treat, I go trick or treat." It was a fun night with our annual neighborhood block party complete with pizza and then seeing Savannah get so excited over all of the candy. Here are a few pictures of our cute ladybug.

Here she is at her first stop, Miss Marlene's house . . . which is no longer for sale! YEAH!! They're staying here for good!!

And here is the loot! Way to go with the candy, Savannah. Dave told me a cute story about how they were at one house and the lady just held out the bowl for her. He said Savannah kept taking a piece at a time saying "one for mommy, one for daddy, one for sananna" until he finally drug her away. How cute that she even thinks of getting candy for mommy and daddy! I love that girl! :)
