Happy Halloween 2009

I have to say that we were cutting it close this year, literally! We actually had trick or treaters before Dave even finished carving the pumpkin! He was determined to carve it and didn't want to do just a regular face . . . so when Savannah woke up from her nap this afternoon this is what she chose and Dave whipped it up! AMAZING!!!! Can anyone guess who it is?

Here are my two cuties, Snow White and her dwarf, Happy.

Just as we finished dinner and Dave changed out of his carving clothes, Savannah put on her red sparkle shoes and of course then it started to rain. However, I have to say that we weren't letting the weather rain on our parade. Dave grabbed the umbrella and off they went. We had our 4 sets of trick or treaters and I think that's all for the night. I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween.

What We've Been up To

This week has flown by . . . well except for the afternoons which draaaagggg on forever. Preston seems to be recovering well from his ear infection, but is still refusing to take any kind of decent nap during the day. His lack of daytime sleeping has also effected his sleep at night and he has been up several times over the past few nights. Thankfully, I have a wonderful husband who has been a lifesaver. Several nights he's gotten up to settle Preston without me even knowing! Wednesday night this week BOTH kids were up at 1am crying so it took both of us up and in action. Whew! Who could be frustrated with a face like this though?

On Wednesday my friend Donna hosted a huge Halloween party for the kids (and mommies+Ben). They had a blast! My pictures didn't come our very well so I stole these from my friend Chelle's blog. Can't you just see the sheer joy in their little faces?!

Savannah with her "best friend" Sara on the Barbie jeep. They rode and rode this thing and managed to get stuck in Mr. Roy's landscaping several times.

These four kiddos are such good friends. L to R is Sara, Anna Kate, Savannah, and Jack.

It's days like this that I have to remember what a blessing it is to be able to stay home with Savannah and Preston. What a huge freedom to be able to pack up midday and go to a Halloween party! I love the fact that we have such a close group of friends and children so close in age.

Lazy 5 Ranch

After church today (our entire family's first trip together) we quickly hurried home, changed clothes and headed to Mooresville to meet Pawpaw, Deborah, Denny, Kristin, and the cousins as Savannah calls them. I had heard great things about the Lazy 5 ranch and we definitely had a blast. If only it had been a little warmer . . . I definitely get the loser mom of the year award as we showed up without any jackets or even a blanket for Preston. Thankfully Deborah let us borrow a towel and then her jacket for Preston to keep him warm. It's been quite a long time since I laughed as hard as I did today. Here are a few pictures from our afternoon.

Uncle Denny holding Savannah up to feed the giraffe.
If only I had the picture of Dave pulling down part of the tree and falling on top of Deborah to go with this one. At least Savannah finally got the leaves from the tree to feed the giraffe. :)

Here is Dillon and Maddie feeding the ostrich.
This was one of the many animals we fed from the wagon. I have never seen such huge animals that were so calm with people. They would come running up to the wagon and then start eating right from your hands! The only guidelines were that you had to feed the birds from the bucket and not feed the zebras (they bite)! The funniest parts were when teh animnals would reach in the wagon under your leg, grab the bucket of food, and just start eating! It was hilarious to watch.

Crazy cousins

Notice the face . . . I think she was just cold and tired because she really LOVED seeing the camels!

It was such a fun day. Thanks Dad and Deborah for treating us to a fun afternoon!

4 Months Old!!

I cannot believe our little Preston is four months old today!! It seems like just yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital and here we are already getting ready to start baby food. He got a great report today from Dr. Baker today and measured in the 75th percentile for height and weight. He is 15 lbs, 5 oz and 25.5 inches long. The plan is to start him on rice cereal tonight . . . now that he has agreed to sit in the high chair. He sure has a mind of his own! Thankfully he slept through the night for the second time last night and has even taken 2 naps today! WOO HOO!!

Flipping Over and Over and Over Again

This boy is driving me NUTS! Every time we put him down in a bouncy seat, swing, or anything else he immediately tries to escape by flipping over. If we strap him in he screams so we generally just sit him down and keep a close eye on him, but it's making me crazy! The same thing is true in his crib. As soon as we put him down he flips over to his stomach and then screams. This happens over and over and over again . . . any suggestions??

Disney, Pumpkins, and Baby Dedication

Savannah with me riding the train uptown.

Savannah and daddy watching Disney on Ice

Our busy weekend started on Friday when Dave and I took Savannah to see Disney on Ice, Celebrations. We got a babysitter for Preston and enjoyed some time with our precious Savannah. I'm pretty sure she had a blast eating out at Chick fil A, riding the light rail uptown, and watching most of the show. After intermission she got a little antsy so we left early and headed home. I, however, was quite disappointed with the show. The skating was great, but the themes and song selections were just not kid friendly or (in my opinion) very interesting at all. Oh well, at least we escaped for a night and enjoyed one on one time with the eldest. :)

Savannah loved picking out her 3 pumpkins!
My two little pumpkins
On Saturday Dave's parents arrived and we headed to the pumpkin patch after naptime. We picked out pumpkins, went on a hayride, and fed animals at the petting zoo. Savnanah loved petting the animals at the end of the hayride. Preston chose to sleep through most of it.

Proud grandparents with Savannah and Preston
Hopefully someone will e-mail me a picture with Grammy and Papa Bachmann because my battery died! :(

The Bachmann Four

Our big family all here for Preston's big day

Sunday was Preston's big day! After Papa Bachmann treated everyone to lunch at LePeep we headed over to church for baby dedication. What a special time it was to dedicate Preston to the Lord and commit to raising him in a Christian home. We really enjoyed having our family together and celebrating little Preston.

It was a very emotional time for me as it was the first of many big events without my mom. I'm sure she was smiling down from heaven though.

The Crib Dash

What is the crib dash?? Well, much like the 50 yard dash, it's a short distance sprint, only in this case towards the crib. This is what I participated in this morning as I woke up at around 6am and realized that I hadn't gotten up all night!! Hallelujah, Preston slept from 9pm to 6am without even fussing. When I ran in to check on him he was sound asleep on his tummy. Maybe it's the new medicine finally kicking in really well or maybe it's that one time I let him scream it out (2 1/2 hours) in the crib or maybe he's just finally realizing how nice sleep is, but whatever the case is, I'm thankful!

Komen Race

Today the four of us ran, well two of us ran and two rode, in the Susan Komen race for the cure. I have to say that the morning was a little chaotic trying to pack everything we needed for two kids, but we did it and were uptown by 7am! Our time wasn't the greatest, but we had fun doing it as a family. Thanks to my wonderful husband for slowing to my pace and pushing the stroller for miles 2-3; it was much more fun running with him! :)

After the race we flew home and Dave rushed Savannah to ballet class. I stayed home, showered, and prepared for our guests that were coming for the Clemson game. What's wrong with those Tigers?? Oh well, it was fun catching up with old friends and having an excuse to eat pizza and cookies.

The Plus Sign

After Savannah's nap this afternoon I decided to pull out some new number magnets that I found on clearance at Michaels today. She quickly ripped into the package and was putting all of the numbers on the refrigerator when she came to the plus sign. Knowing that she didn't have a clue what a plus sign was I asked her what it was, thinking she would say the letter x or something. Boy was I shocked when she said "I think that's what Jesus goes on." Yep, you got it, that looks just like a cross!
