It's not all about the money . . .

Today was a big day for Dave. After only 17 months with what he thought was the "dream company" to work for he has started a new job with his old company, Sonic Automotive. Are you with me on this one? We are still on COBRA for dental insurance with the old company and today he started working for them again. This has been a super fast move, and one that honestly sort of fell in his lap . . .again.

To make a long story short, Dave has been unhappy at work for quite awhile. Although he had a great staff and Hendrick was a really good company (and let's be honest he was making A LOT more money than at the old company) his boss was just a nightmare to work with. He continually expected Dave to do things that just weren't right and generally did a poor job running the dealership. So a couple of months ago Dave heard about an opening back with Sonic and I encouraged him to send in his resume. He talked with his old boss briefly, but nothing ever happened so we just assumed they were hiring internally. Anyway, a few weeks ago his old boss called out of the blue and wanted to meet Dave for dinner. He offered him the job that night and the rest has been super fast!

I called a close friend the day we found out they were going to dinner and just asked her to pray for the decision to be super clear, that it would be a no brainer. So, when Dave got home he was practically glowing. Not only did he have a chance to go back to Sonic but he would be at his first ever store, where he still knew the staff (and enjoyed working for them). He would have a boss that had accounting experience and was good to work for as well. But the decision was sealed when his boss told him that they were moving a GM from Florida to the store Dave would be at . . the same GM that Dave worked with up to the move to Hendrick . . the GM that Dave really enjoyed working with before. After finding that out, I think Dave would have paid them to let him come back. Not really, but let's just say that the decision was super easy.

So today he started working back at Infiniti of Charlotte. The commute is almost half of what it was, the staff & GM are great, and Dave really respects his boss. So, I guess the fact that he took a 20% pay cut is not even important, right? Money just isn't all there is to life and if my husband comes home happier (and quicker) , then our entire family is happier! At dinner tonight I asked Dave to give me two words to describe how he felt about the move and he said "relieved and excited". . . I guess it doesn't get much better than that.

We're still not sure why the Lord moved him to Hendrick for such a short time, but we are sure that he is where he needs to be for now. We're just praying that this is the last move for quite some time.

so glad to hear dave is happier at his job now and being home earlier will certainly be a plus for you and the kids! sometimes the grass isn't greener and maybe dave needed the move to hendrix to satisfy his idea of the "dream job". anyway i'm glad everything worked out well and you're right about the money- God will make a way! love ya'll deborah
