Basketball Finales

Preston had a great basketball season this year!  They finished with a winning record and, more importantly, had lots of fun playing.  Today was the last game of the season and it ended with a celebration that included cookie cake and trophies.

Savannah also wrapped up her season today.  She too enjoyed playing even though she was out for several games (with her cracked growth plate) and even without a win, they still had fun.  Her celebration included cake and ice-cream along with goody bags.  At the moment I have NO pictures.  OOPS!  We were in a hurry to get out the door and get her to a birthday party so I didn't get any pictures of her team celebration. :(

Per tradition, we celebrated the end of basketball season with dinner at Red Robin!  YUM!!

A Project and A Crazy Week

Preston's South China Tiger
It's funny how different life is with your second child . . . when Savannah was in first grade we spent LOTS of time, energy, and worried way to much about her big diorama animal project.  This time around (with Preston) I asked what he wanted me to buy and once I got the clay, it was all his!  Thankfully we did start a bit early with the research and written part of the project so when he was down to the wire last night before the deadline today, it wasn't THAT big of a deal. :)  I think he did a fabulous job all on his own and after a few runs with the oral presentation he was ready to present it to the class.

It didn't help that this week was filled with a day and a half of work for me at PSE, Jump Rope for Heart for both kids, Bible study, church committee prep work, an HOA meeting to plan for and attend, the appointment with our accountant to file our taxes, basketball practices, getting Savannah's room painted, and having a neighbor over for dinner.  Whew!  Let's just say that I'm thankful the weekend is almost here.

Circus Finale

Since the Ringling Brothers circus is officially ending their tour we had planned to go as a family one last time.  We were super excited to find out last week that thanks to Chick Fil A, we  could attend for FREE!!  Savannah posted a crazy picture on facebook (using Dave's account with permission) with a CFA cow sign to enter the contest and we actually won!!  Not only did we win family of four passes, but we also won a year's worth of Chick Fil A sandwiches too.  Woo hoo!!

To top that all off I was able to pick up a mystery shop to pay for parking and $100 worth of circus merchandise once we were there.  It was quite an adventure trying to shop 12 different vendors, but at least the kids left with some fun circus souvenirs.

Savannah reported that her favorite part was the acrobats and Preston's favorite part was the motorcycles in the cage.

It was a great way to spend Sunday afternoon and also a way to remember the real circus.

Celebrating the Boot of the Boot

Savannah was so thrilled to be released from OrthoCarolina and the wearing of the big gray boot today!  Of course she wanted to celebrate with icecream . . and topped it with a candle that she insisted on lighting and blowing out. :)  There was some confusion as she led her own happy birthday song with Preston.  HA!  Never the less, we are all thankful the boot got the boot today!

Basketball & Hockey

So our weekends have been full of basketball lately . . . with both kids playing it literally takes up most of our Saturday with a morning and afternoon game too.  However, it's been super fun to see both Savannah and Preston improve on the court!  The half time shows are always interesting as well . . .  recently Dave got selected to volunteer for this halftime showdown of musical chairs.  Although he was out in the first round it was still fun to watch. :)

This weekend Preston also enjoyed a hockey game with Dave and his Y Guides tribe. Savannah and I opted NOT to attend and instead spent the night shopping and preparing for Preston's school valentine party that I'm in charge of.  I have to say the quiet was a breath of fresh air!

Winter Storm Bust

For days the talk of the city was the huge winter storm that was going to dump 6+ inches of snow on Charlotte . . . well that ended up being nothing but nasty cold rain and a bit of ice.  It did snow for about 30 minutes this morning, enough to cover the grass and make the kids think that it was enough to sled in. :(  So while they were out trying to play in the ice and sled in the snow, Dave and I made good use of our time by sorting through old records and getting ready for tax time.  Once the kids came in they had a weekend long project of shredding!  Here's to hoping we actually get a good winter storm this year!

New Year *Fun*

What were we to do with school being out such a long time after Christmas??  CLEAN!!  There was one day when I left for the gym and gave the kids my famous 100 item challenge . .  they had to work together to come up with 100 items to donate!  It's insane that it only took them about 30 minutes to accomplish this! I also got a bit ambitious myself with my new Norwex wand.  Since it was time to change the filters I decide to finally get them super clean.  This envirowand is amazing.  It gets the dust off better than the vacuum!

And our reward for such hard work was a trip to their favorite theater, the one with leather reclining seats.  We saw Sing and it was okay.  The kids loved it . . and well, I just loved sitting below them (reserved seating) and enjoying an hour without hearing "mama"!
