Senior Week Fun ~ Everything But a Backpack

This week has been Senior Spirit week at school.  Each day had a different theme and today was everything but a backpack day where students get super creative with different ways to transport their school stuff without a traditional backpack.  Savannah was so excited to take her mini shopping cart this morning as her backpack.

Prom 2024!!

Savannah with Mrunal and Sophia making bouquets before prom

These girls had such a fun time!  They made bouquets and got ready at our house before meeting up with the big group to take pictures at Freedom Park.  They then went to dinner and prom.  Savannah strolled up at home around 12:30am and although exhausted, she had a blast!

First Senior Event - Carmel Launching Milestone

I never imagined when we joined a Sunday school class at Carmel for newly married couples 20 years ago that it would lead to some of my nearest and dearest girlfriends, who would be with me through the highest highs and lowest lows of life.  We have been in  Bible study together, experienced all of the firsts of motherhood together, celebrated and mourned together too.  Not all of us had their first child in 2006, so this is just a snapshot of some of the women who mean so much, but what a picture of God's hand at work.  Tonight we celebrated launching our first born children into the real world with a blessing and challenge from the church.  It was such a sweet time as a family.

Mrs. Poats surprised "her" girls with flowers on their table

On Sunday the church celebration continued with a slideshow of the graduates in each service and of course a fun video montage of their student ministry events over the past 6 years.

Carmel Seniors Class of 2024

What a privilege it has been to travel through the stages of parenting with a church family backing you all the way.  There have been so many special events for students over the years providing specific opportunities for parents to pour into and bless our children . . and now the time has come to launch them into college.  Yikes! It's scary to think about but hopefully, by this point, Savannah knows how treasured she is not just by us, but by her Heavenly Father too.  She is ready . . so watch out Chapel Hill, here she comes!

Savannah Votes Again Before 18!!

Savannah was super excited to get to vote a second time before officially being 18.  After dinner, we went to the local polling place to vote in the republican runoffs . . . and apparently we were two of the very few who showed up.  We were votes #32 and #33, so clearly not many people decided to cast a ballot today.

A Split Mother's Day Weekend

This weekend Preston had a soccer tournament at Myrtle Beach . . . and Savannah decided she would rather not spend the entire weekend at the beach with a bunch of teenage soccer boys so we stayed home.  It was a bit odd not spending Mother's Day weekend all together, but we were all happy with the choices and made the best of a crazy weekend.

Dave and Preston left Friday right after school so they wouldn't be rushed.  That gave them ample time to stop at Buckee's on the way down. Apparently, the hotel was right on the beach but it was a bit of a drive to the soccer fields.  Never the less, they had a great time and enjoyed lots of eating out and soccer!  Although they lost two of the three games, they were super close in score and Preston played well.  He's recovering from being sick at Disney and still has an awful cough so he was under *strict* doctor's orders to rest and was only allowed to play part of each game.

Savannah and I spent Saturday doing errands and lots of shopping (looking for new dresses for so many upcoming events), and then enjoyed takeout from Red Robin.  I wasn't feeling the best so it was nice to chill at home, watch a girl movie, and get some good sleep.

We went to early church on Sunday and then enjoyed TCBY (twice) before the boys made it home in time for family dinner.  They had lots of my favorite treats for me . . . sweet tarts, fruit pizza, and peach cobbler.  YUM!!!  So even though we weren't together all weekend, it was a fun few days where we were able to accomplish lots of to do list items and enjoy some fun too!

Senior Flocking

Preston: "Mom, there's a bunch of geese in our yard and they aren't moving"

Savannah: "Those are swans, dodo"

Clearly, we need a field trip to the zoo! LOL  This senior surprise couldn't have come at a better time.  We have been dealing with National Honor Society drama and so much other stress; we desperately needed this smile tonight!

8th Grade Does Disney!!

This year's 8th grade field trip was to Disney World!  Preston was so excited and had an awesome group with Max, Kevin and Matrie . . . it just so happens the principal was his chaperone (not because he's that bad, but because his best friend is the principal's son LOL).  They did have the advantage of being in a smaller group of 4 and quickly made their way around the parks.  Buses left Wednesday morning at 4:45am and are planning to arrive home tonight at midnight.  Whew!  No way could I have hung for that chaperone gig!

Anyway, despite getting an awful cold on the second day, Preston had a BLAST!  They started in Hollywood Studios, did open to close at Magic Kingdom yesterday, and ended with a half day at Animal Kingdom today.  I texted Preston earlier as the bus was on the way home and he said it was absolutely silent.  They will no doubt rest well this weekend!  Super thanks to Mrs. Thompson for sending so many fun pictures and for helping these boys have an amazing trip. :)
