First Day of WEE School

Today Savannah attended her first day of WEE (weekday early education) School! This week was a shortened schedule so she was only there from 9-12 this morning, but it was GREAT!! We arrived and were greeted by her teachers Miss. Jenny and Miss. Rhonda. She didn't cry at all when I left, unlike the other kiddos in her class. I went upstairs and did an aerobics class and then came back to find her still doing well. What a blessing this is going to be for us both. I was able to do an hour of aerobics, run 4 errands, and come home to shower all before picking her up. Now she's down for a nap so the mommy free time continues! First Steps

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! Savannah has finally started taking a few steps!!! Can you tell how excited I am?! Now, she's not quite to the walking stage yet, but if you have just what she wants and hold it just the right distance in front of her she'll waddle over and get it. She had taken a 1/2 step last week, but it wasn't until yesterday when I was going over a mystery shop receipt (ignoring her) and she saw her milk on the counter and took off to get it. It was so exciting!! Hopefully soon I'll capture it on video and post it for all to see!

In Less than a Minute

It was only a minute, barely enough time to send one quick e-mail, and this is what I find . . . Savannah covered in crystal light lemonade mix. One of her new favorite hobbies is pulling everything out of the pantry and it just so happens that the lemonade was in reach and was very appealing to her today. I knew something was going on when all was quiet and boy was I right! She was covered, legs, feet, hands, and all. Never a dull moment!

The Dreaded Season Is Here

No, I'm not talking about the two huge teeth that Savannah is currently cutting nor am I talking about the start of my tutoring again. I'm talking about football. It's already crazy around here and professional football doesn't even start until probably this weekend. Already we've survived two, that's right, two, fantasy football drafts, and a late night Clemson game. Isn't it crazy how into football men get?

I really can't complain too much though because it's not like Dave has year around hobbies that cost lots of money. He doesn't like to golf, hunt, go out with the guys, or play any sports . . . it's just watching and reading about football that drives him. It's free and totally safe, but thing is that I feel like it consumes our home. We're watching college games and cheering for "our" team, watching professional games and rooting on a variety of random players for fantasy football, reading real time updates on the Internet as the game progresses, checking the Clemson chat board for what everyone else says about what's happening, reading the paper for what more people think about what happened, talking about football nonstop with friends at church, and the worst part is the sadness that follows if the team of choice loses.

At times I too enjoy a game (Go APP STATE!), but every fall I have to remind myself that this is what Dave enjoys and things will just be a little different around here for awhile. So, Dave if you're reading this it's OKAY for now, but only for a season. :)

Down to One Nap :(

This has been a really great weekend. Although Dave worked on Saturday and has to work tomorrow too, we took some time out on Saturday afternoon to go to a local Labor Day festival. It was fun walking around and seeing all of the craft booths. Savannah did great, despite the fact that the entire back of her head was soaked with sweat! Afterwards we hit the local Brusters Ice Cream store for a special treat.

Here's the thing, for the past four days I've tried my hardest to wear her out before nap time in hopes that she'd keep up her two naps a day to accommodate my afternoon tutoring times. However, by 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning she's unbelievably fussy wanting her morning nap. So, of course I put her to sleep and she sleeps her normal 1 - 1.5 hours and then doesn't take a nap at all in the afternoon. This continued through the weekend . . . I just knew that after a few hours out in the heat on Saturday she would definitely take an afternoon nap when we got home. Forget about it!! I think the two naps a day are a thing of the past for us. No matter what time she takes her morning nap, she's refusing to take an afternoon nap at all. Thankfully, she has been pretty pleasant though so I really can't complain. I just have to figure out how to tutor with her awake?! YIKES!

Planning Ahead

As many of you know, I am a BIG planner. Today I received an e-mail from a friend saying that a child in her playgroup had swallowed some medicine even though the bottle had a child proof cap. She continued to explain how the mom had 1 hour to rush around town looking for some activated charcoal before serious harm was done to the child. Can you believe that most pharmacies don't carry it?? So, this afternoon that was my mission . . . to find some and have it on hand just in case Savannah was to get into something dangerous.

After going to three different pharmacies this afternoon, I too discovered that no one stocks this very important stuff. One pharmacy did have ipecec but according to poison control this is only to be used if a child swallows a mushroom. The new recommended treatment is activated charcoal, which is not sold at most pharmacies. So, I called poison control and they are willing to mail me some FOR FREE!!! So, if you have a small child at home, I highly recommend calling poison control and keeping this activated charcoal on hand!

Fun Sunday

Today has been a day full of excitement. We started the morning with promotion Sunday at church, which means that Savannah moved up to a big girl Sunday school class. Then, we had a fun filled afternoon around the house with some family play time. Savannah's almost taking a few steps. After standing up today, she moved her feet a little. PROGRESS. Her latest trick is being able to get on and off her Pooh car that Pawpaw and Deborah gave her for her birthday. She can only move backwards once she's on it, but she's mastered the getting on and off part! I went to a baby shower this afternoon and now, things are silent. Ahhhh . . . I can only hear the whisper of the computer running. Dave is at his fantasy football draft, Savannah is in bed, and I'm in my PJs waiting for Big Brother to come on.
