Teen Weekend Adventures

Preston has barely been to school this week . . . Monday they were out because of the hurricane and Thursday/Friday were previously scheduled teacher workdays.  So we could take full advantage of the Bin store Friday morning. . . although it was a big bust!  Nothing to be found of worth!  Preston wondered if this big bunch of flowers he found would be sufficient for his HOCO date. LOL

Saturday was his first time refereeing for kid soccer.  He had a blast and made bank too!

And this cute girl had a blast at the UNC home game . . although they lost again!

I spent my weekend running around doing Shipt trying to make up for a crappy week and also doing some mystery shopping. Dave was happy to watch the Clemson game and get caught up on some work.  Just another ordinary weekend with everyone doing their own version of fun. :)

Clemson T I G E RRRRR S!!

The boys were so fortunate to get tickets (really good ones with a parking pass) to the Clemson game tonight.  They drove down after lunch and had plenty of time to walk around Clemson and grab dinner before the game.  Although it was a bit of a challenge getting into town, they left after the third quarter to head home and the return was thankfully uneventful.  The game was great and they were even able to meet up with Corey and the Weninger girls while they were in town.

HOCO Preparations

This has been quite the eventful week with Hurricane Helene coming through.  We said lots of prayers for our own flooding issues and are beyond thankful we had our trees cut down earlier this week (one neighbor had a huge tree fall through her roof) and had no damage from the hurricane.  Many in western NC are still underwater and have unfathomable damage so we continue to pray for those affected.  Anyway, schools were canceled today so Preston decided he would be brave enough to ask a girl to homecoming and wanted to do it right. :)  So we ventured to the store and got the poster and candy and then he called Savannah to get some big sister help.  The poster turned out to be super cute!

I was so excited when he told me he was asking Brooke, "But you don't know her mom", because yes, indeed, I do remember her from PSE and she is the sweetest!  He and his buddy Drew had it all planned out as a double hang out at the local shopping center.  I had prepped him for the fact that she might say no but knew that wouldn't happen . . . because well, he's a cutie and she's as sweet as a Swedish fish. :)

Preston and Drew waiting for the girls to arrive

All went well and she said yes!  What a great way to end a crazy week!

What a Week . . .

This week has been insane . . . just in the past seven days I have dealt with having the floor refinished, a leaking roof, kitchen lights that stopped working, landscape drainage issues (meetings with landscaper and two drainage companies), having two big trees removed, a broken dryer, some strange humming noise from the bedroom, having appliances reinstalled only to discover that the dishwasher was damaged, having the appliance repairman come for the dishwasher, vibrating lights in the kitchen and dining room, gutters repaired only to see that they are still leaking after said repair, having a wasp nest removed by the professionals, and a bonus of kid dental work.  I'm about to just sell this house and move to an apartment!!!

The landscaper has determined that we need to get grass to grow better in the backyard to hold more water pouring from uphill and prevent erosion/French drain blockage.  So the first step was to get the trees out so the Bermuda grass could get more sun.  I was feeling a bit guilty about having trees removed just to get grass to grow . . until the tree guys showed me the inside of the tree.  Yikes!!!  It was almost completely rotted out and uphill from the kids' bedrooms!  So thankful we got it out before it fell and caused damage.  We would never have known because it looked perfect from the outside.

The only bright side to this week was having Savannah home for a super long weekend (I love the UNC mental awareness days).  She wasn't able to get the early train Thursday so it was a super late night getting home, but we loved having her here.  The main purpose was to hit her favorite consignment sale Friday, but she also enjoyed going into Cakeable and of course some errands and shops with me. :)  There may have been some time spent baking to make her super happy the day before going back to school.  I got up at 5 and we hit the road by 5:15am today to get her back for her 8am class.  It was quite the crazy drive with awful rain most of the way, but we made it safely and I made it back home in time to meet the tree guys and drainage crew.  Now apparently there is more rain on the way so we are hoping for the best and praying for no damage in the wake of the hurricane!  And can someone please pray that stuff stops breaking around here . . .

Tar Heels!!!!

We had such a fun Saturday in Chapel Hill today!!  Preston had to volunteer at the YMCA as a soccer referee/coach this morning, but shortly after picking him up, we headed to UNC for a fun-filled day with our Savannah.  We met on Franklin Street for lunch at this adorable soda shop called Suttons, did some shopping, and then headed to her dorm to deliver some items and hang her bulletin board.  Then it was off to the football game.  It's been a VERY long time since I've been to a college football game, but it was so fun watching the band and seeing all the excitement around campus.  The first three quarters were pretty boring so we decided to head back to the car and try to avoid the traffic getting out of town.  Of course, after we left they went on a scoring spree and ended up crushing NCCU.

It was a super long day with us arriving back in Charlotte at midnight, but it was oh so much fun to see Savannah in her element. :) Despite the roommate situation, she is making the best of it and doing quite well.  So, so proud of her for pushing through and continuing to try new things.  She found out this week she was selected to be on her community government board so that's another outlet for her to make an impact and meet new people.  Plus she is coming home Thursday for the consignment sale . . so only a few days until we see her again.  Yippee!!

She Looks So Much Older . . ,

Savannah sent this picture to me yesterday from a women's soccer game . . .yes, that's right . . . my girl willingly chose to go to a soccer game on campus!  I'm so proud of her for trying new things and continuing to stick her neck out and be a bit uncomfortable.  Her suitemate, who is also Savannah, took this picture at the game.  Why is it she looks SO much older all of a sudden?!?  It's only been like 4.5 weeks but she looks years older to me. :(  My friend Lisa said it was a combination of the look of freedom and confidence.  I hope so!  Go get 'em Savannah!!!

Happy Happy 51st Dave!!

Today we celebrated this amazing man who turned 51!!!  Honestly, it was sort of a normal Sunday with church, the gym, and football.  Dave didn't really want to do anything special (it's still hard to do fun things without Savannah) so we had the regular pizza for dinner, but we did surprise him with a yummy polar pizza for dessert.  It was a low key day to remember how thankful we are for Dave.  He gives SO much every day not just at work and helping with chores, but also making sure everyone has their unique protein shake . . and is always policing the gummy vitamins. HA!

So today we celebrated another year with daddy-o and thanked the Lord for the blessing Dave is in each of our lives.
